10 years

10 years ago I was sitting in my first period class. World Geography with Mr. Dupree. Because I transferred in from another district I took some classes out of order and was the only sophomore in a class full of freshmen.

Class was almost over. We were drawing maps and penciling in locations. I'll never forget when the door opened and a classmate named Jordan who had been at the dentist that morning walked in late. His eyes were huge. He said, "We just heard on the radio that a plane hit one of the World Trade Centers." Mr. Dupree, without a pause replied, "Osama Bin Laden".

He turned on the TV and we all watched.

Right before we left his room, we watched live as the second plane slammed in to the second tower.

I remember that day as if it were yesterday.

I was 15. I didn't know what this meant but I knew I was scared. I knew my brother was traveling with his baseball team. And I kept hearing from teachers that nothing would ever be the same.

They were right.

My sweet Madelyn was born in to this war era. Some days it's easy to get wrapped up in our own little world and forget what is happening still to this day. So many sacrifices. So much pain. So many still grieving the loss of those they love from that day and the days that followed.

As I watched Madelyn dance around the driveway this evening I couldn't help but cry. Each tear was a mixture of sadness for what took place that day, grief for the families affected, gratitude for service men and women who risk their lives and joy that I am able to live this life and watch my sweet girl play in our front yard without fear.

We most certainly will never forget.

Saturday.

I set up a Bitter Berry Boutique Booth at a Church Weekday Ministry Conference at a local church this morning. I really do enjoy having a booth at events. I love meeting new people and am a shameless people watcher, so it's a perfect fit for me.

My Grandmother-In-Law (aka Great Granny) kept me company for most of the day. We even had a couple of special visitors at lunch time!
After a long day at the booth, the four of us went to eat Mexican food. Madelyn had her first taste of a tortilla with honey.

All in all, I'd call it a great day!

toddler funnies

Madelyn is constantly doing and saying funny things. I try to jot some of them down here and there but today she was full of cuteness that I want to remember!

I was printing tags for the consignment sale coming up and apparently MK wanted to try out the barcodes. We tallied them up and she cost a whopping $21. I asked her if she was worth more than that and she giggled and replied, "Oh Mommy, you're silly! I two dollars!". I'd definitely buy her for $2. Talk about a bargain!
This evening we were all sitting around the table when Madelyn looked up at us and asked, "Milk or Coke, Mommy?"..."Milk or Coke, Gigi?"..."Milk or Coke, Granny?"..."Milk or Coke, Daddy?". The cutest part of it all, she was writing down our orders after she asked.

This afternoon Madelyn was talking to Aunt Kenda. Kenda asked Madelyn if Aunt Kenda loved her. Madelyn quickly replied yes and said, "Michael too?". We all laughed. She wanted to make sure Aunt Kenda loved Michael too!

Love all these funny little moments!

Gigi and Great Granny

I absolutely love this picture. The mister posted a caption with it; "I wonder who knows how to work it better?". I am not sure Gigi appreciated that, but unfortunately I think MK could do more with her iPad then I could.

Last week and this weekend could most accurately be described as wild. Or insanely wild. Take your pick.

The highlights however have definitely been MK getting some quality time with Gigi and Great Granny. Great Granny watched MK for a few hours on Wednesday while I picked up Emily from school and took her to dance. Then Thursday night while the mister and I had a night away for our anniversary, Gigi and Great Granny stayed with Madelyn. Not to mention all the moments in between.

Madelyn has adored having them here. When Granny walked up the stairs this evening, MK jumped and squealed and chanted her name!

Yesterday morning my mom and I picked up a moving truck. With Luke and Glenna's help we loaded it up with Rachel's belongings and hit the road towards Houston to help Rachel move to her new apartment.
Madelyn supervised the loading process!

The drive there passes through a national forest that is simply beautiful. It was a very quick trip, but Rachel is officially moved in now!

I am so grateful that despite the sheer craziness of this season of life, we are surrounded by awesome family and friends!

four years

It's been eight years to the day since the night we started dating.
We had just started our senior year of high school and knew that our three year friendship was turning in to a little bit more.
It started with a simple little kiss.
