detour

Friday morning our family of three hit the road towards Lake Travis to spend the weekend at a beautiful house on the water with Luke's family. After being on the road for a little over an hour we got a phone call that my Grandma in OKC was being taken to the hospital. After a huge screw caused us to have to stop to get new tires, we made the decision that all of us would go to OKC together. My mom and sister were already on their way and at that point we were not far behind. We were very sad to miss out on a weekend with the family, but knew we needed to see Grandma.

My husband and in-laws were super supportive, which made the whole situation a little easier. Madelyn spent quite a bit of time with her Daddy while I was at the hospital over the course of the weekend. The first night we were there they watched the Rangers clinch their trip to the World Series together.
Once a day we took her to the hospital with us to see her MeeMaw Fee. She doesn't sit still for long so they were usually very short visits.
She blew kisses, waved, smiled and laughed...which was very contagious.
I know Grandma loved seeing her and so did my aunts and cousins.
Lately she has become even more expressive than ever! The faces she makes are hysterical and she usually has some noise to accompany them.

It was a tiring and emotionally exhausting weekend for everyone. It was the first time that I have ever arrived at my Grandma's house that she was not waiting right on the other side of the glass door, with a smile on her face and her hand on the handle, waiting to greet us. That was really hard.

My Grandma is a remarkable woman. Full of love, grace, compassion and steadfast trust in the Lord. To see her in pain and uncomfortable was almost too much at times. She is doing MUCH better now and is no longer in the hospital.

Monday morning before we left we took Madelyn up to the hospital in her gnome costume for everyone to see. She blew MeeMaw gnome kisses!
I'm sure Madelyn was looking at all of the bandages and IVs thinking, "Hey! That looks familiar!".

The weekend was not exactly the restful, quiet weekend on the lake with Luke's family that we planned. I am just thankful that my sweet Grandma is feeling better and for family (mine and Luke's) who supports, loves and comes together in times of need.
