this week

Dear Madelyn,
I've struggled some this week with whether your Daddy and I have really shown you that Easter has nothing to do with a bunny and everything to do with Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. The weight of the impact of our decisions in celebrating Easter has on your understanding of the Gospel has been on my shoulders. While there is much to be celebrated in remembering Christ's sacrifice, we want to make sure that what is celebrated is in fact the sacrifice of the cross, the burial and the risen Christ.

Earlier in the week I had one of my favorite songs playing while I was cleaning. You and I listened to it repeatedly and eventually you caught on to some of the words.

"Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
But fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to Him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely You've bled for us

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bowed to none but heaven's will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown
No burden great can hold You down
In strength You reign
Forever let Your church proclaim

O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light
The glory of God has defeated the night

O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light
Our God is not dead
He's alive! He's alive!"

Christ Is Risen -Matt Maher

After a few listens, I heard your sweet voice singing, "Um awake" (come awake). Then I was reminded that we don't need to do lots of extra things to teach you what Easter means. We need to be reflective ourselves. We need to celebrate what is meant to be celebrated ourselves. What we hold important about Easter will be what you see is important.

I am thankful that your sweet little spirit is already learning about King Jesus.

Love you sweet girl. Happy Easter weekend!

Love,
Mommy
