it's happening...

Due to Luke's car being in the shop, Madelyn and I were not able to join Luke at church today. It's probably a good thing. The little one was a bit crabby. Over the past couple of weeks she has really started to gnaw on her hands...pacifiers...toys...basically anything that she can figure out how to get in to her mouth. I have found myself wondering if it could possibly be happening. I am not wondering anymore. It's no secret. I think the pictures speak for themselves...

Although the doctor said that it could be months (MONTHS of this misery for the little one?? and mom and dad??) before they actually break through, I think it's safe to say that our almost 5 month old is teething. Pray for us. Ha! But seriously...I can already tell this is not one of those "warm, fuzzy, fun milestones".

Any suggestions from the pros on how to make it a little less painful for all involved??

  1. Oh, joy. Just settle in and stock up on some Hyland's teething tabs. Alex starting gnawing and drooling around 6 months. His first tooth didn't break through until he was 14 months old! Hopefully, Madelyn won't be such a slow tooth-pusher-outer.

  2. Oh, I am feeling for you. My daughter had her first tooth break through at 4 months, and they all came FLYING in after that! Our life saver was the teething tablets mentioned above, and this great little teether from babies r us. It is blue and yellow, and the teether part is shaped like a star, and everytime she bites down on it, it vibrates. I highly recommend it, as it was our lifesaver! She is 22 months old now, and it still vibrates! LOL!!! She is cutting her 2 year molars, and has found it again. Good luck.
Oh, and there is some baby orajel for nighttime that really helped.

  3. Definitely Hyland's teething tabs. Hadley did the same thing around 3-4 months,(SO MUCH DROOL) but it eased up & started again shortly before her 1st tooth came through at 8 months1

  4. We used Hyland's teething gel (never tried the tablets)and kept teething rings in the fridge. It really wasn't that bad. He got his teeth two at a time at four months, seven months, nine months, and then one more at ten months. And one just a few weeks before his birthday. The bottom ones seemed to cause more pain and sometimes we gave him infant Tylenol. The top teeth never even seemed to bother him. The only thing painful I remember is the insane ammounts of drool with the first two teeth!!! I felt like I couldn't keep him dry!

  5. I swear by Hyland's Teething tablets! Elise always likes to chew them. I gave up on putting them under her tongue. I wonder if the people who wrote the directions ever tried to put anything under a baby's tongue! We used infant tylenol when it seemed bad. Mostly at night. Elise has 2 on the bottom and 1 working it's way in on the top.

  7. I've heard sooooooooooooo many people recommend the tablets, so I know they must work! My kids all went through teething before the tablets came out, so I missed them, but I'd definately say to give them a try!
