late night & a long day

Last night Madelyn put on a little show for Gigi, Papa and Great Granny via Skype. At first she wasn't so sure what to think about the three cheering for her on the computer screen and flashed several skeptical looks their way. Once she recognized their voices, she was all smiles.
And the performing began.
I may be going out on a limb here, but I think the audience loved it.
I am not going to tell you what time those pictures were taken. The scene may or may not have taken place after a family trip to Target and Wal-Mart that cut in to baby's bed time. Once you miss the bed time hour...this kid is up all night long. I think she finally decided to give up her fight to stay awake around 11pm!! For a wee one that is usually snoozing by 7:45pm, that's late!

This afternoon Madelyn and I went out to the church to help Luke fill water balloons for a massive water balloon fight to kick off summer after church.
My fingers were sore after I filled 132 balloons.

Madelyn played in the most old school exersaucer I have ever seen that we borrowed from the church nursery. Baby toys have come a long way in just a few short years. I didn't get a picture of her in it, but I will most definitely be donating an updated version as soon as I find a cute gender neutral one.

Madelyn looks so much like her daddy. She enjoyed a fun game of Uno in his lap.
I am pretty sure I caught her eyeing every one's cards around her. We will have the "rules of the game" talk tomorrow.
I think she got tired of waiting around for the action to happen...well...that or she just got hungry. I am pretty sure that Uno card that she has shoved in her mouth rivals her mum mums in the flavor department.
After church we headed outside to watch the water balloon/super soaker water gun/fill up buckets and dump them on everyone show.
Madelyn was amused but I think she is still in that "easily entertained" stage.
Some of the students came prepared with some pretty cool gear and water guns of their own.
That combined with the nearly 500 balloons we filled during the day, 10 mini water guns, several buckets of ice, 2 super soakers filled with ice cold water, water spickets galore for refills and 35 crazy kids equaled craziness. And wetness. And stinky wetness. And mud.
And chaos.
And lots of laughs from the spectators (which definitely included yours truly).
My husband is such a kid. I think he had more fun than anyone...until he got a bucket to his top lip. It's now the size of a grape on steroids right smack dab in the middle. Still kissable so I am OK.
Summer is here. Let the wet, messy, crazy, chaotic games begin.
For the record...who knew babies came with perks like exemption from getting soaked by 14 year old boys toting water guns that think it is funny to get all the adults wet?? "I am holding the baby. You get her...I'll get you." I think he will have nightmares about that tonight. But seriously. Thank you Madelyn Kate for keeping me dry tonight. I love you.
