A letter for Madelyn

Dear Madelyn,
May you know, the greatest blessing we have ever experienced as husband and wife, is having you. Even before we have seen you face to face, we have experienced God's goodness through you in so many ways. He has used you to bring to life His promises...promises that before you started growing inside of me, were words...words that have now been made tangible.

Today, as you spend your last day inside of me, I am taking time to treasure each movement you make. There are so many moments along this journey that we have traveled together over the past months that I cannot wait to tell you about. From the day that I found out I was pregnant and the priceless look on your daddy's face, to the day we first saw the tiny little blip on the ultrasound and then the moment we first heard your precious heart beating. Each time we went back for another ultrasound, we would sit in awe of your growth from the last time we saw you. There were those scary moments too. The ones that left us on our knees praying that you would continue to thrive inside of me as long as you could. Praying that we would be blessed enough to meet you. I will never forget the first time I felt you move inside of me and the hours I spent at night fascinated by the way you made my belly move in every direction or the sheer magic of realizing that you are really here, growing and alive inside of me. The joy that I saw in your daddy's eyes the first time he felt you move is a joy that rivals all others. I will never forget the day that I realized you are a fan of Kari Jobe's music. You begin to move instantly when I turn it on. Every time you get the hiccups, I still sit in complete delight and feel the rhythmic bumps they make. It never gets old! Madelyn, you are treasured already.

I am in awe of the possibilities your future holds. I know that you are here, not by chance, but because God has a purpose for your life. Although I cannot wait to witness what your personality will blossom in to, what your little voice will sound like and who you will become, I know without a doubt that I want to cherish each day for it's own.

I love your daddy more than anything in this world. He is my best friend and the one that I am thankful to wake up next to every morning. We laugh together (and at each other), enjoy the time we get to spend with one another and walk through this life hand in hand. I cannot wait to share the love we have for each other with you, sweet girl. The only love greater than this love is the love of our Father, I am confident of that.

I have dreamt of the day when I will hold you in my arms and touch your soft skin for the very first time. Despite all my efforts to be prepared for your upcoming birth, I am confident that nothing can prepare me for what that moment will be like. See you in the morning, princess!

I love you,

  5. Wow what a great letter. I too have written letters for my girls before they were even conceived, after conception, and then one every month of their first year and then my plan is one once a year after that. My mother wrote me letters once a year and I treasure them. It is such a wonderful gift you give to her. We are SO happy for you both and know you will be great parents. Can't wait to see the pics of little Maddie. God bless!

Right now I am just so overwhelmed with memories--seven months ago I was just where you are and I couldn't sleep in anticipation of Benjamin's birth. You are going to have such an amazing day tomorrow...I am covered in goosebumps...and I'm crying...but it's not from hormones!
