Saturday Night Update

At the moment I am finding myself speechless so I will try my hardest to put to words what I am thinking and feeling. This morning started off rough. We did not know until after the fact that she was actually having a harder time than we thought. Her respiration's were above 120 for over an hour and her blood results indicated she was heading downhill...fast. Thankfully, once Madelyn got used to the CPAP machine, she has steadily improved throughout the course of the day. Her respiration's have been hanging out between 50-70 since 7:30pm!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT? (Just in case you were wondering...you should be saying, "Pretty darn awesome, Kathryn!!") I just have to throw this out there...our nurse has been amazing. The doctor confirmed that she does in fact have pneumonia. Because of the pneumonia we are realizing we will be here for a little while and that it is just going to take some time for her to get better...and get better she will. We have been so encouraged this afternoon. It is still pretty miserable seeing her hooked up to all the machines, but I know that is what is helping her get better. It is also pretty miserable not being able to hold her, but I know that is necessary for now. On top of that, it is pretty miserable knowing that she can't eat for now and it may be a week before she can. I know this too, is just the way it has to be for now.

Here is a video of Madelyn. She had the hiccups in this one and you can hear a few of them if you listen close...

I have to tell you, about an hour ago Madelyn woke up again and had her eyes open. She was looking at her daddy so intently. He moved from one side of her bed to the other and she followed him. My heart melts just thinking about it.

Thank you for your prayers...keep 'em coming please!

I am about to head to the special care nursery to check on her again. I love to hold her hand. I hope she loves it too.

*Kathryn

  3. Kathryn, she is so pretty! I loved the tongue thrust thing she was doing toward the end of the video. So cute! I'm glad things are still going well!

Do they know how she got pneumonia? Did she aspirate some amniotic fluid during the birth?

  5. Kathryn and Luke, congrats! She is beautiful. When reading your updates, I so hurt for you b/c I remember how I felt when Griffin had to be on the Bilibed for two weeks. I could only hold him to feed him or change him. We are praying for you and your families. I know this is so hard for Rach not to be here for you. Please let us know if we can do anything to help.

  7. Darling, darling, darling video!! I'm so glad we get to see her with her eyes open, and am so impressed at how alert she is. What a little trooper.

So glad to hear things are going in the right direction. Now that Maddie's resting more comfortably, I hope you and Luke can get some rest as well.

Sweet dreams to all of you.

    Love, Nancy
